The Best French Toast with Maple Syrup Almond Sauce

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • 125 ml creme
  • 125 ml milk
  • 60 ml maple syrup
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 slices of wheat toast 2-3 cm thick

For the sauce

  • 60 g almonds, roughly chopped
  • 60 ml maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 60 ml creme

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 190° C. Whisk together the eggs, cream, milk, maple syrup and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  2. Melt butter in a medium, coated pan. Dip slices of toast into the egg mixture on both sides and lightly brown on both sides over medium to low heat.
  3. Spread the toasts on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake in the oven for 8 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, clean the pan and lightly rust the chopped almonds over medium heat. Then add the maple syrup and butter. As soon as the butter has melted, add the cream and mix well. Cook the sauce for 3-5 minutes until it reaches a homogeneous consistency and colour.
  5. Remove the French toast from the oven and serve with the sauce.
